Ghostly Visitation
Like so much of parenting, Halloween had all the elements of misery--physical discomfort, chaos, and hyperactive children--yet it was somehow (like so much of parenting) still a lot of fun. The girls had been reading It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, and wanted to be ghosts. The baby was a koala. We got no good pictures of the kids; as soon as they were costumed, it was chaos, and we thought we'd get some pics outside, but it started to rain almost immediately. Sam took Little Guy back inside to keep him warm and dry. Allison Clare dashed off to run from house to house like a little crazed hoodlum, with Miss Diane in tow. Gillian was really upset at the idea of her costume getting "all soaking wet!" so she wore her coat over it. I spent the whole night standing next to her at our neighbors' doors, explaining, "She's a ghost but she didn't want her costume to get wet. Ha ha ha!" She and I trudged through the darkness and rain until she couldn't walk anymore and finally consented to go home. I carried her home, a damp, heavy, happy armful, with my coat pockets bulging with all that she couldn't fit in her little bucket.
We did get some random video snippets. In the first one Allison Clare hasn't yet had the ribbon added that took her costume from Klansman to Casper. I like the moment in the second where she says to Gillian, who is indistinguishable from AC herself, "You look SO hilarious."
