UPDATE: Thank you for the commiseration and impeccable advice. I think I'm going to do more or less what Yolanda suggested, which is to accept now and reject later if necessary, though putting enough restrictions on the acceptance (limiting access) and trying to frame expectations a la advice from Hermance, Kate, Noel, and Juli.

Y'all are the best--and definitely the reasons that venturing out into cyberspace to maintain and create friendships is worthwhile!
