Pain Tolerance
Tonight at our first childbirth class, we had to squeeze, as tightly as possible, a rubber glove filled with ice for one minute. It's surprisingly painful--your hand starts to ache after a few seconds, then as you continue squeezing, the ache turns to an agony of "when will this be over." My husband lasted only 20 seconds. The baby is lucky she doesn't have to exit HIS body.

Are you, by any chance, doing Bradley classes? How did we MISS this potential topic of conversation at our lunch together??
(p.s. -- back in the olden days, when I took Bradley, we didn't even GET a rubber glove ... that ice was right in your hand, baby.)
:)
The difference, of course, is you can darn well drop that piece of ice any time you feel like it. Those contractions are coming and going when and how they please. Somehow, that thought comforts me, actually.
I would have done Bradley if it were available--it sounds like a really neat approach, with lots of customer satisfaction. :) But this was just a general "prepared childbirth" class that our hospital offers (only 5 minutes from our house, which made the decision for us! . . . then on the big day, I can stay at home as long as possible and keep eating . . . ha).
