Yesterday was like a situation comedy, really, it was so bad. Not in any major ways, but in a dozen minor ones. Sam and I began the holiday of love by having our first real fight, conveniently timed for just before both of our classes. My day then went better than his: my survey students had their best discussion yet, which was a big surprise because we were all grumpy about being there (the college had cancelled all classes until 11:30 due to snow, and ours begins at 11:45). But Sam's computer lab was blowing up or something. Then at 5:00 he got a call about a crisis involving the house he is closing on today, which needed to be solved immediately. And he was frustrated because the gift he had ordered for me didn't arrive, even though it was supposed to have been here by Monday. But he came up with a back-up plan, which was to buy a mug that I had once admired at Starbucks, except that then our Starbucks was sold out of them. In the meantime, I was feeling smug about the perfect gift that I had ordered for him (a personalized embosser for his books), until he opened it and it was so perfect that he already had one.
